Creation Myth Making Workshops give participants the opportunity to creatively explore the myths they have inherited and wonder about new ones or rewrites that could better explain who knows what.
Register for the April 2 workshop
Happening one Saturday a month
Final Workshop: April 2nd
10am - 12pm at Community Arts Workshop (Assembly Room)
631 Garden St. in Santa Barbara, CA
October 9th // Marie Ponce: Body Language & Movement
November 6 // Kristin George Bagdanov: Zine Making
December 11 // Faye Cox: Working with Clay
January 8 // Hannah Vainstein // Sculpting with Cardboard
February 5 // Madeleine Ignon // Painting
March 5 // Kate Hodges: Ethnobotany
April 2 // Meagan Stirling // Printmaking

The process & purpose:

Workshops are two hours long:
  • Hour One: A contemplation with writing exercises led by Diana Small to give you the opportunity to reflect on the myths that make you, existing and still to be composed.

  • Hour Two: A tool-based master class led by a guest artist where you will learn how to use a certain artistic medium. For example, if a potter is leading the workshop, you will learn how to handle clay, how to acquire it, how to care for it, what's possible between you and the clay. You will not leave with a handmade bowl so that you have the opportunity to leave with who knows what.

These workshops are after practices, not results. These workshops are intended to inspire you with new tools to be a creator, a meaningful myth maker.
Childcare: *Because of our final workshop's location, we will not be able to offer childcare for the April 2nd workshop. These workshops are free and childcare for infants and toddlers (ages 3 and under) is provided at no cost. Please register in advance so we know to expect you. Childcare provided by Child Time Nanny Services.
COVID-19: All participants must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and bring proof of vaccination to the workshop. You can find details about our pandemic practices on the registration page.

The place:

These workshops are held in the Parish Hall at Trinity Episcopal Church.

*Our final workshop gathering on April 2nd will happen at the Community Arts Workshop in the Assembly Room.

These are not christian-centered or religiously-based workshops (if you're interested in that, perhaps you will be drawn to partnering the workshop with the compline service). The workshops are led by people with a variety of spiritual & religious backgrounds. But it's happening at a place with a christian context and it's helpful to know that, particularly if church spaces have not been a hospitable space for you. The facilitators will be intentional about making it as hospitable as possible to all kinds of folx.

Trinity Episcopal Church is an open and affirming community that celebrates queerness and self-expression.
